Michael Olokani

  • Nickname: Jungle Michael
  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: 1Zambia 2019: It was the perfect weekend for me and my partner as we took first place. Another memorable moment was the Pruride cycling race in Lusaka, also in 2019.
  • What I appreciate most about being on the team is how we are helped and supported and how we now have cycling as a sport in Solwezi.




Benard Saulombu

  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: Winning my first 3-stage MTB race in 2018 - 1Zambia, the biggest MTB race in the country.
  • I'm thankful for the continuous support from our sponsors in various ways. Recently they have helped the team with new, good quality MTB and road bikes. This really encourages us to continue to grow the sport in the community.

Joseph Daka

  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: Gaining points for Zambia for the first time at the Nedbank XCO race in Nambia, 2019.
  • What I most appreciate about the Kansanshi Cycling Development programme is that it gives everyone equal opportunities not only in cycling but also in education.

Agoster Jilowa

  • YOB: 1998
  • Joined the team aged: 15
  • Training food: Jungle Oats
  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: Winning the Zambian National Cycling Championship title in 2016, and being welcomed back into the team after I came back from cycling professionally in South Africa.
  • Being in the team has made me the person I am today. The sponsors and the programme have helped me in so many ways, including covering my college fees and in teaching me discipline.

Kaumba Kakoma

  • YOB: 1990
  • Joined the team aged: 23
  • First professional Zambian deaf cyclist
  • Nickname: Silent Rider
  • Training food: Good Morning biscuits & energy bars
  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: Participating in the Deaflympics in Turkey in 2017. This was my first international race and I was the first Zambian cyclist to take part in this competition.
  • I'm thankful for the Kansanshi cycling team founder, Meiring Burger, the CSR manager, FQML, other sponsors and all the people who have worked hard to put the team on the map. Thanks for always supporting us and helping us to grow stronger and become the strongest team in Zambia.

Bedias Tunkanya

  • Nickname: Beddy
  • Training food: Energy bars and coffee
  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: 1Zambia 2019. My expectations weren't too high as I was riding with a junior, but we placed 3rd overall.
  • What I most appreciate about the Kansanshi Cycling Development programme is that it gives opportunities to the community through the channel of cycling.

Andrew Pyele

  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: 1st place in a school series race in Zimbabwe, where I had a mechanical but went on to win.
  • I'm thankful for what the Kansanshi Development programme has put into my life; for the help with school fees and for how I've been taught to respect different customs.

Sydney Juma

  • YOB: 1997
  • Joined the team aged: 16
  • Nickname: Captain (from when I captained the domestiques in the Mine2Mine 2018 race)
  • Training food: Bananas - affordable, easy to find and easy to eat!
  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: My best racing period was 2017-2018. In 2017 I placed 2nd in the Zambian National Cycling Championships and in the Kansanshi Road Race. I was also chosen to attend UCI training for a month and a half. In 2018 I was part of the team representing Zambia at AFCON, and won the Kansanshi Road Race.
  • I'll always be thankful to our sponsors and those who support us by discovering and developing young talent. This has drawn the attention of the community and of the country.

Matthews Mulenga

  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: The day I was accepted onto the team.
  • I'm grateful for all the things I have learned as a team member. Being in the team has helped me to stay away from bad influences.

Mathews Mazabuka

  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: 1Zambia 2019 when I came 3rd overall with Bedias, and I was the youngest rider in the race.
  • I really appreciate that the Kansanshi Cycling Development programme covers my school expenses, and that I have new bikes, which will help me to produce good results in races.

  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: When I was accepted onto the team, because I really love cycling.
  • I'm thankful for my school fees being covered by the team, and for the opportunity to travel to places I've never been to before. I really can't explain how happy I am to be on the team.

Emmanuel Samulozanga

  • Training food: Apples, bananas, Good Morning biscuits
  • Most memorable cycling moment to date: I enjoyed riding the 90km Mine2Mine race in 2019. I made a great effort on my MTB, pushing at the front and responding to every attack from my colleagues who were on road bikes. Unfortunately I had a mechanical problem later in the race but I was excited at how well I performed.
  • I'm thankful for support towards school fees and help for my family. I'm also thankful for having discovered that I'm also good at running, and I've now won a few races.
